THE sixth leg of the Tatts Cox Plate WFA Global Championship is to take place on Wednesday 16 June at Royal Ascot with the running of the Group 1 Prince of Wales Stakes over 2000 metres.
Presvis returns to English soil after a long and ultimately frustrating global campaign, only highlighted by victory in the Group 2 Jebel Hatta at Meydan. Presvis will start an unaccustomed fourth favourite in the market (8/1), returning to Royal Ascot with Kieren Fallon aboard.
The current market is dominated by Byword (3/1), an unlucky second to Goldikova at Longchamp in the Group 1 Prix D’Ispahan last start and Twice Over (4/1), 3 ¼ lengths behind winner Gloria De Campeao in the Dubai World Cup. The 5th Leg winner, Fame And Glory blitzed his rivals by seven lengths to secure the Group 1 Gold Cup at the Curragh to emulate his sire Montjeu, who took out the race 10 years prior. The victory claimed trainer, Aidan O’Brien his fourth Gold Cup victory. Last year’s Irish Derby winner has gone from strength to strength and looks set to become one of Europe’s best gallopers after his dominant display at the Curragh.
In addition to claiming International Group 1 glory, Famed And Glory gained a 2010 Tatts Cox Plate ballot exemption, therefore guaranteed a start in Australasia’s Weight-For-Age Championship at Moonee Valley on Saturday, 23 October 2010.
The Tatts Cox Plate WFA Global Championship has been developed by MVRC to expand its exempt race policy by earmarking 10 international Group 1 events in which the winner will be exempt from the 2010 Tatts Cox Plate ballot and guaranteed a start over the 2040 metre journey.
The MVRC will maintain its ‘International Promotion Fund’ which aims to attract quality international runners to compete against Australasia’s leading weight for age horses. Through the International Promotion Fund, overseas runners will be eligible to receive a $100,000 payment if they do not finish in the first 8 placings in the 2010 Tatts Cox Plate on 23 October.
The only condition that will be placed on the ‘International Promotion Fund’ will be that international horses will need to be trained by international trainers with training bases outside of Australia and New Zealand. All horses competing in the Tatts Cox Plate will need to pay the nomination and acceptance fee.
