EIGHT CRANBOURNE ENTRIES ALSO NOMINATED FOR MELBOURNE CUP

EIGHT nominated horses for the Luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup on Sunday are also nominated for the Group 1 Caulfield Cup, with victory in both races earning that horse an extra $1 million.

Sydney trainer Anthony Cummings has four horses nominated for both races, with 7YO gelding Zavite the most likely Luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup starter.

The son of legendary trainer Bart Cummings, Anthony will be seeking his maiden Cranbourne Cup and said the $1 million bonus on offer was certainly appealing.

“Without that bonus available, I wouldn’t have worried about nominating so many runners,” Cummings said.

“By nominating a few it gives an opportunity to have a crack at it, but it all depends on how well the horses are and the rating of the track.”

By Zabeel, the 2025 journey suits Zavite. A winner of eight races from 41 starts with more than $1 million in prizemoney, Zavite has had one race at Cranbourne when second over the Cup distance in October 2006.

Cunnings other nominated runners are Miss Darcey, Nothin Leica Cat and Road to Rock.

Other horses to have been nominated for the Luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup as well as being a final declaration for the Caulfield Cup are Britomart, who is trained by Rick Hore-Lacy, the locally-trained Crossthestart from Bevan and Richard Laming’s stable, Victoria Derby winner Kibbutz and South Australian Lady Avacan.

Another unique element on the day will be the presence of the Spring Spruiker Tommy Little, who will be calling the Little Cup. The race will be conducted between races two and three on the home straight, where selected people from the crowd will be racing in toy brumbies carrying jockeys.

Those with a passion for fashion will be out in force at this year’s Myer Fashions on the Field at Luxbet.com Cranbourne Cup Day.

The 2008 Myer Fashions on the Field winner at Cranbourne Turf Club, Maria Dalziel went on to finish third in Country’s Best Dressed Racegoer competition. The judging panel will consist of Myer milliner to the stars Melissa Jackson, who created a beautiful one-off hat worn by Jennifer Hawkins on Derby Day at last year’s Melbourne Cup Carnival and Country Racing Victoria’s fashion ambassador Sally-Anne Marshall will again be on the judging panel at this years’ event.

“With a total prize pool of $10,000 from Myer on offer, the competition is pretty fierce and the standard at Cranbourne Turf Club is very high, so I’m confident that we’ll have a winner who will be more than competitive,” Cranbourne Turf Club Sales & Marketing Manager Vanessa Yates said.
