FIVE RIDES FOR THE WORLD'S BIGGEST OWNER ON GUINEAS DAY

WHEN champion hoop Kerrin McEvoy arrives at Caulfield on Saturday, he will be carrying the hopes of the world's biggest owner and a probably a bag full of his luckiest riding gear – but only one set of jockey silks.

The reigning BMW Caulfield Cup winning jockey has five confirmed rides at Caulfield on Saturday, and each of them are for leviathan owner and the Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed.

McEvoy, who will ride Denman in the $1,008,000 Group One The Age Caulfield Guineas, will only need to put on the Maroon and White colours of the world famous Darley operation just once, and keep them on all day.

McEvoy, who resides in Sydney, will have three rides for the Peter Snowden stable while he will also ride two of the Darley-owned horses that are trained by Lee Freedman. His rides include Governance (Race 1), Kanzan (Race 3) and Denman (Race 7) for Snowden while the Freedman runners for Darley and McEvoy are Romneya (Race 2) and Wilander (Race 4).

He only needs to cast his mind back 12 months to recall a most memorable occasion for him and Sheikh Mohammed. McEvoy, who is stable rider for Darley Australia, completed the dream for 'the boss' when he steered All The Good to victory in the BMW Caulfield Cup in 2008, a maiden Group One win in Australia for Sheikh Mohammed's European arm of his racing empire, Godolphin.

On that occasion, McEvoy donned the Royal Blue colours used predominately in Europe for the elite group of Godolphin horses.

According to McEvoy, Saturday's race would mean as much, if not more, to Sheikh Mohammed as winning the Caulfield Cup, given the amount of money he has invested across the board in Australian racing.

“For a three-year-old colt, I think this is the main Guineas and a stallion making race and especially in a strong year like it looks to be this year, it's going to mean an awful lot to win the Guineas for Darley as a whole,” McEvoy said.

In 2008, McEvoy partnered the Darley-owned Von Costa De Hero in The Age Caulfield Guineas who ran third behind the eventual winner Whobegotyou and fellow Darley-owned horse, Time Thief, who finished second.

At 4.00pm on Saturday, McEvoy will take his final ride for the day on the favourite in a Group One race for the biggest owner in the world – what a stage to showcase what might just become his favourite set of jockey silks.
