LETSGOHORSERACING is designed to be different to the hundreds of racing websites throughout Australia and in many countries of the world. Most focus on racing news, detailed form, statistics, betting systems, ratings and tips (at a cost), or generally promote a specific thoroughbred business or venture, industry stake-holder group, race club or administrative body.

LETSGOHORSERACING promises to provide the best of both worlds for those thoroughbred enthusiasts who prefer to stay at home or venture no further than the local TAB, PUB or CLUB, as well as those of all age groups who want to GETAWAY AND GO RACING in Australia or abroad.

Our goal is to keep you informed on interesting carnivals to visit through our travel guide, GETAWAY AND GO RACING. We plan to nominate OUR TOP 10 RACE TRAVEL suggestions on a regular basis.

We also want to help you back winners and will provide our DAY AT THE RACES FREE RATINGS SERVICE & LATE MAIL for SELECTED WEEKLY RACE MEETINGS at major AUSTRALIAN venues and seasonally in HONG KONG, which we regard as the best racing centre outside of Australia.

GETAWAY AND GO RACING - in Australia and Overseas

We plan to provide – on a calendar basis – an insight to the growing number of racing venues that individuals or families can travel to at carnival times and combine with a tourist-type holiday with something to suit everyone. We won’t just focus on the big ticket items, like the Melbourne Cup, the Golden Slipper and the Super Saturdays, which are already familiar to most. Instead we will highlight some of the other popular and lesser known carnivals throughout Australia and overseas where race-lovers and their families can chose to go for a brief or extended stay. Our coverage will give some history of the event and the region, along with a few tourist tips to ensure that mum and the kids – if they’re not all that interested in the racing – can enjoy while dad has his day at the track. GETAWAY AND GO RACING will be a work in progress with plans to eventually provide calendar-style reviews and road-testing of carnival meetings from Birdsville to Broome, Cairns to Kangaroo Island and Hong Kong to Hollywood Park. This will incorporate some of the big Country Cups carnivals and major race meetings in Australia and overseas.

DAY AT THE RACES FREE RATINGS AND LATE MAIL SERVICE

This will be provided on SELECTED MAJOR MEETINGS OF THE WEEK. Top Four Ratings and Late Mail will be compiled – free of charge – by professional form analysts from LETSGOHORSERACING who have worked for corporate bookmakers and racing media organizations. Some still do but want to give something back to the industry which has provided them with a good livelihood. We won’t guarantee any get-rich schemes like many of the tipping websites do, nor will we charge for our service. All we ask is that you bet responsibly and promise to do our best to help you find a winner.

LETSGOHORSERACING is a NOT-FOR-PROFIT website service, which aims purely to cover operational costs once we become fully operational. Apart from GETAWAY & GO RACING and DAY AT THE RACES RATINGS & LATE MAIL, our coverage will include behind-the-scenes information and opinion-based articles from the various Australian States, Hong Kong and Overseas racing. We won't shirk our responsibilities if the topic happens to be controversial.

COLUMNIST GODFREY SMITH - 'Horsing Around' - Archieved from the beginning

LETSGOHORSERACING will provide a regular, light-hearted look at the racing industry through the eyes of columnist GODFREY SMITH – a true-blue racing character whose views will no doubt amuse some but perhaps upset others. He  makes no secret of his likes and dislikes – whether they are big players on or off the track. As a kid he grew up idolizing Bert Bryant and Peeping Pete. These days he loves watching Dr Turf, religiously follows the tips of Shane Templeton & Dean Lester and hangs on every word of his favorite caller, Greg Miles. He loves the big Cups carnivals but is equally at home in the bush where he grew up following racing. ‘Gody’ – as he is known to his mates – hasn’t quite embraced some of our new-age racegoers who prefer to fall over drunk rather than have a punt. As much as he follows TVN and SKY coverage with a passion, he has taken a distinct dislike to the incessant chatter of some of the presenters but keenly follows the documentaries made by his great favorite, Graham 'Shadow' McNeice. He has little time for some of the modern-day racing officials and believes that many are totally out of touch with what the punter really wants and have managed to lose a couple of generations of racegoers in the process. Godfrey admires the ‘Singo’ approach to administration; idolizes Bart Cummings; thinks Gai Waterhouse, like her former dad TJ, is great for the game; hates racing on these new-fangled Cushion Tracks; and wants to see corporate bookmakers become more competitive with the TAB, which he believes struggles to provide the ordinary punter with a fair shake. Love him or hate him, you’ll want to read what GODFREY has to say.

The website has been established by a former newspaper sporting and racing editor. He has the support of individuals with knowledge, background and experience spanning many decades in the racing industry and the media in Australia and overseas. They have owned, raced and bred horses and worked in many areas of the racing industry (some still do), understand the needs of the various stakeholders and recognize the fact that without these stake-holders AND MOST OF ALL THE PUNTER, there would be no horse racing. Their aim if to provide a horse racing website that is different but hasten to add that it will be developed over time.

THE LETSGOHORSERACING website would not be possible without the support of race clubs in Australia and overseas, along with their marketing and communications units. We rely heavily on the contribution of various tourism organisations at a State, National and Overseas level.
