AMERICAIN ran a terrific 4th behind DUNADEN in the Caulfield Cup considering they have been playing ‘catch up’ with the French-trained Australian-owned stayer. He lost two racing plates in the run and wasn’t knocked about in the straight.

PEAR TART had no luck in the straight in the Tristarc Stakes and should have finished closer when 2nd to STREAMA. The John Thompson-trained filly won the G1 Tatt’s Tiara at Eagle Farm in the winter and grows a leg in the wet.

BAGMAN ran into a smart one in LIGHTINTHENITE in the David Jones Cup and rates plenty of thought in one of the country cups for young trainer Sam Kavanagh.

GONDOROKO ran a handy 5th to ALEGRA in the Ethereal Stakes. The lightly-raced Zabeel filly is starting to get up to suitable distance and trainer Pat Carey obviously has an opinion of this Maiden.

THE VERMINATOR ran an improved race when 2nd to CRAFTY IRNA in City Tattersall’s Club Cup at Randwick last Saturday. It was arguably the best run from the Chris Waller-trained stayer since he won last year’s Metropolitan.

The Queensland visitor TOO MANY REDS got clear late when a closing 2nd to plunge winner FMAOUS SEAMUS. He had won his two previous starts for the Gollan stable in Brisbane.

WORLD WIDE ran a real eye-catcher after missing the start and getting clear late when 2nd – arguably should have won – to MORIARTY. It was always the intention to ride him quietly.

Goulburn galloper EMINENT DOMAIN ran a nice race for the Danny Williams stable when a closing 4th (from last) to WHISPEROSA. He came off a last start win in the heavy at Canberra.

MR EDISON has never really been a 1st-up performer but ran an encouraging last to third behind SNITSKY. It was the first start since April for the Bart Cummings-trained galloper.

Once again it was difficult to find a Horse to Follow from Brisbane racing where the form continues to confound us. BID SPOTTER comes out and wins like Bernborough at his Brisbane debut then races like Radish one start later. Not a question asked about the poor effort but that’s par for the course in Brisbane.

REFLECTANCE, the odds-on winner of the day, could be above average and is worth following while FILLYDELPHIA, now that she has struck form, should win again. JUGAHLATION didn’t have a lot of peace in front when nailed on the line by MEMORABLE MOMENT and can breakthrough soon.
