THREE TOP AWARDS TO WILLIAMS, BRIDGES AND WEEDING

Queensland racecourse managers have been honoured with all three prestigious awards at the 2009 Australian Racecourse Managers' Association (ARMA) Conference hosted in Adelaide this week.

Brisbane Racing Club general manager of venues and risk management, Warren Williams, was awarded the evening’s highest honour, Australian Racecourse Manager of the Year for the second time, for his contribution, involvement, knowledge and commitment in the field of racecourse management.

Williams has been a racecourse manager in Brisbane for the last 15 years and also spent 10 years at Moonee Valley Racecourse in Melbourne.

He has shown total commitment to the industry and the ARMA assisting in the development of trackwork staff, both at a training and advisory level.

The Brisbane Racing Club’s assistant racecourse manager, Sean Bridges, received the $10,000 Steriline Racing ARMA Scholarship for his leadership, management ability, initiative and strong passion for the racing industry.

Sunshine Coast Turf Club racecourse manager, Murray Weeding, was also recognised for his outstanding achievements for the second time being awarded the Regional Racecourse Manager of the Year.

The National Stewards body select the winners of the Australian Racecourse Managers Awards based on outstanding contribution to race track management and maintenance.

Queensland Racing Limited chief operations manager Mr Malcolm Tuttle described the achievements of these three gentlemen as a testament to the strength of the Queensland racing industry.

“The ARMA awards won by Sean, Murray and Warren add to the momentum of racing in Queensland,” said Mr Tuttle.

“Queensland Racing would like to extend our congratulations as these awards recognise the quality of people working within the Queensland racing industry.

“The fact that both Warren and Murray have received their awards twice, and Sean is developing his skills further, highlights the collective strength in this sector.”
