RACING Queensland (RQ) with the unanimous support of the Queensland industry today presented a revised Queensland Thoroughbred Investment Scheme (QTIS) program to the Racing Minister the Hon. Steve Dickson.

The program would require an annual injection from the State Government of $6.5 million. This would see the Queensland program return to its position as the number one breeding program in Australia.

RQ CEO Darren Condon stated that the introduction of the reinvigorated QTIS program would ensure that benefits of QTIS would exceed that currently offered in the southern states.

“QTIS has a long and proud history of driving participation and growth in the Queensland thoroughbred industry. This proposed program would take QTIS to new ground and become the most popular and rewarding racing incentive scheme in Australia.”

“I would like to publicly thank the Queensland industry associations, the QROA, TBQA, QTA and the QJA for the positive collaborative approach taken to rebuilding the QTIS program.” Mr Condon said.

Thoroughbred Breeders Queensland Association (TBQA) President Basil Nolen believes the revised program would provide a much needed confidence boost for the Queensland breeding industry.

“By invigorating QTIS it will ensure that Queensland’s premier breeding and racing scheme will become the envy of other states. The changes address key areas of QTIS that the industry’s breeders have identified in need of improvement. It will be a massive boost for Queensland.” Mr Nolen said.

Queensland Racehorse Owners Association (QROA) President Kerrina King stated that Queensland owners are in support of a reinvigorated QTIS.

“Additional prizemoney and QTIS bonuses outlined in the new proposal will be widely welcomed by Queensland owners and the QROA are delighted to play a role in the development of this great program.” Ms King said.

Queensland Trainers Association branch (QTA) President Pat Duff said that Queensland trainers across the state will see the benefits of the new scheme.

“QTIS for many years has been the lifeblood to the Queensland industry and I am sure that the new program will only further enhance its reputation and standing in Australia.” Mr Duff said.

Queensland Jockey Association (QJA) President Glen Prentice said that the Queensland jockeys will welcome the enhanced QTIS.

“Any increase in prizemoney that rewards participants in Queensland racing is very welcome. By building confidence to the local breeding system it will in turn build confidence in the wider racing industry including amongst our Queensland jockeys.” Mr Prentice said.

Minister Dickson committed to taking this request to Government for their consideration.
