RISING Toowoomba star CHAKVETADZE will join elite company if she takes her unbeaten record to eight wins in the Listed Nudgee Handicap at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Chakvetadze, named after the Russian tennis ace Anna Chakvetadze by her doctor owner, John Hooper, is out to emulate the feats of Sunline and Bentley Biscuit.

Brilliant New Zealand mare Sunline won her first eight starts then finished second in the 1999 Angus Amanasco and the Gai Waterhouse-trained Bentley Biscuit did likewise before bowing to Tall Timbers in the 2006 Newcastle Newmarket.

Chakvetadze, trained by Michael Nolan, had to secure a barrier certificate after she misbehaved at the start prior to her Doomben win in December. The four-year-old won the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas in May.

Brisbane-based racing writer Glen Davis reports for AAP that Nolan will know if Chakvetadze is the ‘real deal’ when she bids for a Sydney autumn trip at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

Nolan believes his new stable star faces one of the biggest tests of her career after receiving 57.5kg for the 1200m feature.

"The handicapper hasn't missed her and this will be the first time she's had to carry a decent weight," Nolan said. "She has to give good mares like Plain Magic and Lilleelavee 4.5 kilos.

"If she happens to win again then it will virtually rule her out of these fillies and mares races in Queensland as she'll get too much weight in the future," Nolan said.

"If she wins she'll go to Sydney for some of the good fillies and mares races next month and there's also some nice Group Two races which look suitable.

"But if she loses then there's another race like this on in a couple of weeks here."

AAP reports that if Chakvetadze performs well in Sydney the logical step for the daughter of Taimazov would the Group One Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 20 before she returns for the Brisbane winter carnival.

"The Stradbroke Handicap has always been our aim with her but she'll have time to go to Sydney for the autumn first," Nolan said. "She's had a long spell so it won't harm her to have a tough preparation."

Chakvetadze on Saturday confronts the classy mare Alverta, which will have her first start in almost a month following her last start second to Joku in the Listed Bernborough Handicap (1630m) at Doomben on Boxing Day.

The six-year-old, which will carry 60.5kg, has been taken to the beach to mentally prepare for her first start over 1200 metres since she ran fifth to Hot Danish in the Group Three Research Stakes at Rosehill in September last year.

Trainer Paul Messara originally planned to run Alverta in the Listed Goldmarket Handicap (1300m) at the Gold Coast on New Year's Day but opted to bypass the race because of fears of a wet track.

"We were considering the Goldmarket but it looked like being wet," Messara said. "She's dropping back sharply in distance on Saturday but she's got a good base of fitness, that's why I decided to freshen her for this."
