FOLLOWING heavy criticism on racing forums, Bet365, one of the world's biggest betting companies who have only been active in Australia for a short time, released a statement relating to the matter.

"Following a steward's inquiry immediately following the race, two dogs in the race in question, including the favourite, were subsequently suspended for 28 days for 'failing to pursue' and Racing Queensland are conducting an integrity inquiry into the race," the statement read.

NATHAN EXELBY, lin an excellent article in the BRISBANE COURIER-MAIL, reports that RQ chief steward Wade Birch has confirmed there is an investigation into the race, with a key element being the dogs which "failed to pursue", which are trained by Jonathan Daniel (Finished Forcer) and Andrew Wilkinson (Octane Moment).

QUEENSLAND'S leading trainer Robbie Heathcote has come out swinging in response to the protests by country trainers that the proposed changes to Workers' Compensation Premiums will discriminate against the smaller operations.

Heathcote has written a blog and distributed it to many of his fellow members in the Queensland branch of the Australian Trainers' Association, which has been  consulted by Racing Queensland to the anger of many in the country who claim this organisation is certainly not representative of the majority of the more than 1,000 trainers in this state.

Below is the Robbie Heathcote response, which we run in fairness to objectivity on the issue and please note the change of stance by RQ that he refers to at the bottom of his blog:

THE racing industry in Queensland is mourning the death of former top jockey of the sixties and seventies, Colin O’Neill, in Brisbane overnight.

O’Neill, who had battled ill-health for some time, was the husband of pioneering lady jockey Pam and after weight forced him from the saddle took up training.

THE Meagher Racing partnership is excited to announce it will start training from its new Queensland base this week.

John Meagher, ably assisted by his sons Chris, Dan and Paul, enjoyed a very successful 11-year stint in Singapore.

THE countdown begins for the first two-year-old race in Australasia; the Brisbane Bloodstock Hopeful Plate, which will be hosted at Clifford Park on Saturday 22nd September 2012.

This year’s event has a new naming sponsor in Brisbane Bloodstock. Col Richards, owner of Brisbane Bloodstock, is delighted in becoming the new sponsor of the Hopeful Plate.

IN his widely-read column, ‘SILKS & SADDLES,’ published by the NORTH QUEENSLAND REGISTER, respected racing writer TERRY BUTTS reports exclusively on the benefits to be received by the Rockhampton Jockey Club for ending its equity sharing arrangement with Racing Queensland.

Butts questions whether this will happen with other clubs as well who entered into deals when the Bentley Board ran racing in Queensland. He reports on a Hughenden race meeting called off because the club vet forgot to turn up and again raises concerns in the country about the inefficiencies of RISA and its off-shoot Stable Assist.

Here is the Butts column:

RACING Queensland will investigate whether action can be taken to recover in excess of $1.8 million in industry funds paid in 'sweetheart deals' to four loyal executives of the previous Board who resigned after the election.

A copy of the Auditor General's report on the 'golden handshakes,' which have angered stake-holders, have been provided to ASIC and the CMC. The new Board has revised indemnity arrangements to ensure that this situation never occurs again.

Below is a Racing Queensland Media Release on the matter:

TONY Newman has been elected unopposed as the new chairman of the South Australian Jockey Club after a dramatic meeting yesterday.

CRAIG COOK reports in the ADELAIDE ADVERTISER that the former vice-chairman succeeds David Peacock who stepped down at an urgently called board meeting.

Peacock, who has ongoing heart issues, made the decision on advice from his doctors.

IN his widely-read column, ‘SILKS & SADDLES,’ published by the NORTH QUEENSLAND REGISTER, respected racing writer TERRY BUTTS reports exclusively on the snub from Racing Queensland officialdom for the biggest meeting in the state this weekend – the Townsville Cup.

He questions why a big team can shadow the Racing Minister to St George but no-one can find the time to make it to Townsville – not that some officials there could care less. They have found the money – unlike other clubs – and with no help from RQ the Townsville track will be in first class order for Saturday’s big meeting.

Butts raises industry questions about why RQ would waste money flying a junior steward from Brisbane to run last Saturday’s Cluden meeting when they have a highly experienced chief in Townsville. He also reports on the mysterious circumstances surrounding the ‘sacking’ of an experienced Integrity investigator at RQ and questions whether he was ‘knifed in the back’ by someone he trusted.

Here is the Butts column:

THIS web-site continues to listen to what our readers have to say and has introduced a ‘Wednesday Whinge’ where you can express your feelings on racing industry issues of the past week. Try to keep them objective. Just e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

THE e-mail box was again inundated with concerns about the political crap fight they call Queensland racing. Some involved the old regime and the ‘golden handshakes’ paid to four loyal executives. Others were raised about the new powers that be with claims ‘the more things change the more they stay the same.’ Letsgohorseracing is still on the outer but it doesn’t seem to be having an effect on industry personnel keen to express their feelings in the Wednesday Whinge. Keep them coming and we will keep running them. We’re quite content to remain on the outer. It was never going to be any other way considering the cosy relationship that exists between the RQ chairman and the Courier-Mail Racing Editor. The sad part is they are fooling no-one with the one-sided coverage that is being provided. One nark even commented that they would need just the single seat on the charter flight to St George this weekend for a hoedown with the Racing Minister on Cup Day. He even pinched a line from the old TV show Fantasy Island when describing the close link between the two. It went something like: ‘D’Plane boss, D’Plane.’ What a sad state of affairs.

Here is this e-mail week’s selection with apologies to those who missed out.
