RACE 2: Bowermans office Furniture Pago Pago Stakes 1200m:

Again leaving the 200m Plucky Belle had difficulty obtaining clear running between Aerobatics and Recoinage, which shifted out.

When questioned, J McDonald, rider of Angel Bee, stated it had been his intention to ride the mare in a midfield position, however, after jumping awkwardly and when a number of runners to his inside showed intent of going forward, he elected to take up a trailing position at the rear of the field. He added Angel Bee was inclined to race keenly in the middle stages, however, was disappointing in its failure to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary examination of Angel Bee did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated that the only tangible excuse he could offer for Angel Bee’s disappointing performance was that it did not let down when placed under pressure in the heavy track conditions and, although the mare has won on rain affected ground, her best form is in better going. He undertook to report back on the progress of Angel Bee in the days subsequent to the race.

A post-race veterinary examination of Shahad did not reveal any abnormalities.

RACE 4: IRT Magic Night Stakes 1200m:

Trainer Mr G Ryan agreed with the explanation of B Avdulla and undertook to report back on the future race plans for Tetsuko subsequent to the race.

Post-race veterinary examinations of Tetsuko, Clifton Red and Donelle did not reveal any abnormalities.

Stable representative Mr T Ward concurred with the views of rider C Schofield and undertook to report if there was anything amiss with Kencella subsequent to the event. When questioned regarding his riding of Boban rounding the home turn, G Schofield stated that he followed Fat Al into the race and expected that horse to shift out on straightening, with a view to improving to its outside. He added when Fat Al did not improve as he expected he momentarily finished up on the heels of that runner before improving to his outside. He added that Boban was never comfortable in the soft going, but commenced to stretch out better over the final 200m, which was the firmest part of the track. A post-race veterinary examination of Fat Al revealed the gelding to have been galloped on on the near hind leg.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Red Tracer, M Rodd stated that the mare blundered linking up with the course proper near the 1400m and then was inclined to race a little ungenerously in the middle stages. He added, after obtaining cover on the back of Terravista, Red Tracer travelled will, but when placed under pressure in the straight did not respond to his riding and was disappointing. RACE 8: TAB.COM.AU Rosehill Guineas 2000m:

Tupac Amaru was slow to begin. M Walker, rider of Puccini, was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 1100m when not clear of Shamus Award, resulting in Shamus Award having to be steadied. Making the home turn Dissident was buffeted for room between Hooked and Thunder Fantasy (D Oliver), which shifted out to improve to the outside of Order Of The Sun. D Oliver was advised to exercise more care. Shortly after straightening Dissident was eased to avoid the heels of Thunder Fantasy, which again shifted out slightly.

When questioned regarding the tactics adopted on Puccini, M Walker stated that it had been his intention to have the colt race in a forward position and if it commenced well to take a position either in the lead or to the outside of the anticipated leader, Shamus Award. M Walker stated, with four weeks between runs, Puccini had been pulling hard in its work. He said that approaching the first turn when the pace was genuine he endeavoured to restrain his mount, but it commenced to overrace, which resulted in his saddle shifting forward and placing him at some disadvantage. He added that, entering the back straight near the 1400m, he was obliged to allow Puccini to roll forward and cross Shamus Award. After giving consideration to M Walker’s explanation and after viewing the official patrol films, the Stewards were able to ascertain that M Walker’s saddle had slipped forward near the 1700m and, therefore, they accepted his explanation.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Shamus Award, C Williams stated that his mount raced fiercely throughout the early stages and making the first turn was inclined to shift out when racing on the wrong leg. He added, when pressured in the lead by Puccini, his mount did not settle until near the 1000m and, consequently, gave ground quickly in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Shamus Award did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr D O’Brien advised that Shamus Award had worked well since arriving in Sydney, but would now be spelled. Mr O’Brien undertook to report back to the Stewards on any condition that may be apparent in the days following the race.

When questioned regarding his riding of Scorpio Queen, C Newitt stated he had intended to get cover on the mare, however, Scorpio Queen was inclined to overrace in the early stages and, with the slow early tempo, he took up a position outside the leader. He added, in his view, Scorpio Queen was most disappointing in that it failed to respond to his riding particularly when it had a comfortable run in a slowly run race.

MOONEE VALLEY

Race 1 – FRIENDS OF EPWORTH - 1000 metres:

Prior to correct weight D Moor rider of Inkulu, fourth placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection.  Stewards were also satisfied there were no grounds for an objection.  It was established that approaching the winning post Inkulu had to be eased when attempting a narrow run between Ms Mazetti and Bullpit, which when laying out shifted out slightly.

The start of the race was delayed by approximately five minutes due to Rich Enuff, Inkulu and Fifthleg Bro all proving difficult to load.  Trainers Mr K Keys and Mr A Freedman were advised that Rich Enuff and Inkulu must trial to the satisfaction of Stewards before racing again and trainer Mr L Corstens was advised that warning will be placed on Fifthleg Bro.

Splash Of Moet suffered a bleeding attack during the race and had to be led back riderless. Stewards acting under the provisions of AR142, deemed that it was impractical in the circumstances for D Stackhouse to weigh in after the race and were of the opinion that Splash Of Moet carried its correct weight, therefore correct weight was declared.  Post race veterinary examination of Splash Of Moet identified the presence of blood in both nostrils. S Baster (Selectify) explained that his mount was racing in blinkers for the first time and near the 100m shied and shifted in away from Scatcat, which was making ground passed his mount, and as a result Selectify made contact with the running rail for several strides.  S Baster added he has recommended to the connections to remove the blinkers from the colt.

B Rawiller (Hai Lil) explained that his mount wasn’t the best to begin and was then unable to gain a position with cover in the early stages and therefore he was caught wide without cover and he said in hindsight, given the slow tempo, he should have elected to go forward but was mindful of the horse’s normal racing pattern.
