FOUR POSITIVE SWABS INVOLVING TRAINER CLINTON MCDONALD

RACING Victoria Limited (RVL) Stewards today received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming four positive swabs have been returned by three horses trained by Clinton McDonald.

The report pertains to the following post race urine samples taken from horses trained by Mr McDonald:

1. Mr Crane – following its win in the Honey Fashion SV 3YO Maiden Plate (1100m) at Echuca on 3 November, 2009;

2. Carleton – following its win in the TAC 0-62 Handicap (1400m) at Echuca on 3 November, 2009;

3. Shabtis – following its win in the Mitchelton Wines Maiden (1400m) at Seymour on 19 November, 2009;

4. Mr Crane – following its win in the Mangalore Hotel Class One Handicap (1200m) at Seymour on 19 November, 2009.

The four samples were each shown to contain free and conjugated 3-Methoxytyramine at a concentration in excess of 4.0?g/ml, therefore making it a prohibited substance in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

3-Methoxytyramine is a by-product (metabolite) of dopamine which is a substance produced in the brain and exerts effects on the nervous system.

Mr McDonald was initially informed of the irregularities from Mr Crane and Carleton at Echuca on 4 December, 2009 and from Shabtis and Mr Crane at Seymour on 10 December, 2009.

Mr McDonald was today advised of RASL’s confirmatory findings and that RVL Stewards are continuing their investigation.

RACING Victoria Limited (RVL) stewards today also received a report from Racing Analytical Services Limited (RASL) confirming a positive swab returned by the Terry and Karina O’Sullivan-trained Last Drop.

The report pertains to a post race urine sample taken following Last Drop’s win in the Legends After The Last Handicap (2040m) at Moonee Valley on 28 November, 2009.

The sample was shown to contain free and conjugated 3-Methoxytyramine at a concentration in excess of 4.0?g/ml, therefore making it a prohibited substance in accordance with the Australian Rules of Racing.

Mr & Ms O’Sullivan were initially informed of the irregularity on 11 December, 2009. They were today advised of RASL’s confirmatory findings and that RVL Stewards are continuing their  investigation.
