THE three-day Caulfield Festival of Racing commences on Saturday with C.F Orr Stakes Day and the day promises to deliver first-class racing action.

The Group 1 Festival of Racing action continues at Caulfield after C.F Orr Stakes Day with Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond Stakes Day on 20 February and concludes a week later on 27 February with Futurity Stakes Day, featuring the Rokk Ebony Futurity Stakes (1600m) which is the first leg of the 2010 Asian Mile Challenge.

THE past two Emirates Melbourne Cup winners, Shocking and Viewed, are set to return to the racetrack at Caulfield this Saturday as part of the Melbourne Festival of Racing.

The pair feature amongst 20 horses nominated for the Group 1 $400,000 Sportingbet Orr Stakes (1400m) for which entries closed with Racing Victoria Limited (RVL) today.

STAR sprinter Nicconi booked a ticket to Royal Ascot with a brilliant win in the $500,000 Group 1 Coolmore Lightning Stakes, 1000m, at Flemington on Saturday.

Aided by a perfectly-judged Damien Oliver ride, the David Hayes-trained Nicconi, $5, finished strongly for Damien Oliver to snatch victory from Wanted, $9, by a long head to earn a start in the King Stand Stakes. Sydneysider Shellscrape, $9, was a game third.

VICTORIA Racing Club Chief Executive, Dale Monteith, today issued a statement reassuring trainers with stables at Flemington that their horses would be safe during the forthcoming music festivals to be held at the track.

“The Club is extremely concerned about what occurred on Tuesday and we understand that the owners of the horses involved and trainer Mark Kavanagh would have been devastated by the incident,” Mr Monteith said.

COUNTRY Racing Victoria (CRV) has today announced a $65,000 rise in prize money for the Warrnambool Racing Club's three-day Tabcorp May Racing Carnival.

A total of 16 races have had their prize money boosted, bringing the minimum level of prize money per race up to $20,000, and the total prizemoney on offer during the carnival to over $1 million.

Victory in the 1000-metre dash will see the winner invited to compete in the remaining legs of the world’s richest sprint race series in the United Kingdom, Japan and Hong Kong.

Coolmore Lightning Stakes, which will be contested at Flemington on Saturday.

The international significance of the series was highlighted with a special appearance by star USA sprinter Cannonball, in Melbourne for the 1000-metre dash down the famous Flemington straight, before taking on the rest of the world in other legs of the Global Sprint Challenge.

THE Victoria Racing Club can confirm that it has evidence to suggest that the Flemington Racecourse stables precinct was the subject of unauthorised entry on the afternoon of 26th January 2010.

“Unauthorised entry into any premises at, or surrounding, the racecourse is a very serious matter and one which the VRC will investigate in full with the assistance of police and other parties as required,” said VRC Chief Executive Dale Monteith.

SUMMER racing got serious at Caulfield on Tuesday with the running of key lead-up races for the 2010 Caulfield Festival of Racing including the first two races of this year’s Arrowfield Stud Blue Diamond series.

Over 5,200 patriotic race-goers witnessed brilliant performances from two extremely promising juveniles in the two-year-old Blue Diamond previews while there were also outstanding winning efforts from horses who have already established themselves as quality performers with promising futures ahead of them.

The 2010 Melbourne Festival of Racing is all about Serious Racing – the big names will be back on track doing battle in some of Australia’s richest and most coveted races.

This is the time when Serious Racing fans get their fill and look forward with anticipation to some of the great contests of the turf.
