AN investigation into claims on-air presenters accepted "free shares" in racehorses is being conducted by racing broadcaster TVN.

MARK DUNN reports in the HERALD SUN that the internal investigation, dubbed by racing insiders as "shares for comment", was launched after allegations were raised about whether the part-ownership, if offered for free, breached laws requiring stakeholders have equity in the thoroughbreds.

BOOKMAKER Tom Waterhouse will be called to attend a specially convened parliamentary hearing into the spread of gambling into live sporting broadcasts.

HEATH ASTON reports in the SYDNEY MORNING HERALD that the 30-year-old Waterhouse has a multimillion-dollar deal with Channel Nine to exclusively spruik odds during football coverage but questions are being asked in Canberra as to whether he is sidestepping a new code of conduct designed to delineate the roles of commentator and bookmaker.

A DISAGREEMENT over ticketing arrangements had put Black Caviar's planned trip to Sydney next month in jeopardy, but the Australian Turf Club has bowed to owners' demands. Neil Werrett and other co-owners of Black Caviar are believed to have asked for 220 members tickets and a catered marquee when she races at Randwick in the $1 million T.J. Smith Stakes on April 13 - demands the ATC had initially been reluctant to grant.

PATRICK BARTLEY reports in the MELBOURNE AGE that at Moonee Valley on Friday night, before the great mare won her 24th consecutive race, Werrett made several negative comments about Sydney racing officials and their lack of appreciation for the mare's drawing power.

However, ATC chief executive Darren Pearce said the issues had been resolved. ''I have spoken to Neil [Werrett] and we have agreed to have talks and jointly promote Black Caviar's appearance in Sydney,'' he said. ''She will be vetted after her Friday night win, and if Peter Moody gives the all-clear, Black Caviar will be competing in the T.J. Smith Stakes.''

It is understood that Melbourne clubs in the past 18 months have fully complied with the growing number that are in the Black Caviar entourage.

But Waterhouse, 30, is remaining tight-lipped about the industry speculation and his spokesman gave only a firm "no comment" when asked by News Limited about the takeover bid.

Four of these meetings have been removed from December when field sizes and consequently turnover were negatively impacted in 2012 due to an abundance of pre-Christmas meetings.
