“nice work that will top him off for Saturday.”

RACING Victoria Ltd (RVL) Chief Handicapper, Greg Carpenter, today announced weight
penalties for Alcopop and Allez Wonder in the Emirates Melbourne Cup following their
impressive feature race victories at Caulfield on Saturday.

Alcopop has been handed a 1.5kg penalty after his runaway win in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes, while Allez Wonder has been penalised 0.5kg for her win in the Group 1 Toorak Handicap.

SOUTH Australian-based trainer Leon Macdonald has won a host of major races around Australia during a long and successful training career but winning the Schweppes Thousand Guineas at Caulfield on Wednesday will have extra significance.

Training partnerships have been part of the racing landscape for almost five years in Victoria but when the 2009/2010 racing season commenced, Macdonald and his son-in-law, Andrew Gluyas, were the first official training partnership licensed in South Australia.

THE reputations of some of the country’s best three-year-olds were left dented when under-rated Starspangledbanner scored an upset win in the $1 million Group 1 Caulfield Guineas on Saturday.

Written off as being suspect at the mile journey, Starspangledbanner, $13, responded to a brilliant front-running ride from Dan Nikolic, to score by almost three lengths from Carrara, $19. Manhattan Rain, $9, was third.

BRILLIANT WIN IN GROUP 1 YALUMBA BY KAVANAGH STABLE STAR

The Mark Kavanagh-trained Whobegotyou took a stranglehold on favoritism for the $3 million Cox Plate with a brilliant win in the Group 1 Yalumba Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday.

Whobegotyou, $2.15 favorite, proved too strong for Heart of Dreams, $3.70, and provided champion jockey Damien Oliver with the 2000th winner of his illustrious career.

FLIGHT FROM ENGLAND DELIVERS FINAL CONTINGENT OF FIVE

THE final contingent of overseas horses for this year’s Spring Racing Carnival arrived in Melbourne
late this morning.

Although the flight from England was delayed enroute, the five horses travelled well according to
their handlers and they have arrived safely at the Sandown Quarantine Facility.

LATEST WORLD THOROUGHBRED LISTINGS HAS 'WHOBE' IN TOP 50
REIGNING Tatts Cox Plate favourite, Whobegotyou, has been included in the list of the World’s best 50 racehorses in the latest release of the World Thoroughbred Rankings.

The Mark Kavanagh-trained four-year-old has been given a rating of 119 for his win in the Group 1 Dato’ Tan Chin Nam (Feehan) Stakes over 1600m at Moonee Valley on September 12 2009.

BRILLIANT colt Denman, a winner at his last six starts, has got plenty going for him in the $1 million The Age Caulfield Guineas tomorrow but the big bookmakers are keen to lay him at the $2.80 quote in pre-post markets.

Despite the fact that two of his main rivals will be giving him a start, Trusting ($4.80 to $4.60) and So You Think ($10 to $7) have already been backed to upstage the rising star of the Peter Snowden stable.
