MCEVOY LOOKS SET TO GET THE CUP RIDE ON GODOLPHIN HOPE

KERRIN McEvoy is expected to be confirmed later today as the rider for Godolphin’s Kirklees in the BMW Caulfield Cup on Saturday week.

Godolphin’s number one jockey Frankie Dettori was keen to come to Melbourne for the ride but will be required for stable runners at the Champion’s Day meeting at Newmarket, the final feature meeting of the English flat racing season.

A LATE CHANGE OF DATE LANDS COLERAINE RICH STEEPLECHASE

COLERAINE Racing Club will have the honour of hosting the richest race at a non-TAB meeting in living memory when horses contest the $60,000 Great Western Steeplechase on Saturday.

In what has been a major boost for the Club, the initially abandoned Coleraine Cup meeting on 27 September found a new date and the race card has been boosted by two feature jumping races.

HIGHLY-rated Dermot Weld-trained mare Profound Beauty will not be coming to Melbourne for the 2009 Emirates Melbourne Cup.

The Irish trainer advised Racing Victoria’s General Manager of Racing Operations Leigh Jordon overnight that a decision has been made that after a long season Profound Beauty will be kept in training next year and therefore will not travel to the Melbourne Cup this year.

FURTHER TESTS FOR JOLIE’S SHINJU & EL SEGUNDO SUFFERS EYE INJURY

VICTORIAN stewards today suspended top jockey Craig Williams for 10 meetings at the conclusion of an inquiry into interference in last Saturday’s Group 1 Turnbull Stakes at Flemington.

In other action stewards require the Singapore star, Jolie’s Shinju, to undergo further tests before racing again after she was found to have an irregular heart rhythm and trainer Colin Little has advised that El Segundo suffered an eye injury during the running of the Turnbull Stakes.
